Last week, the focus was firmly on housing, and rightly so. The fortune was on our side as we proudly took home the Skills & Training Award at this year’s Unlock Net Zero Awards – for the second year in a row!
As part of Housing 2025, the UK’s largest annual housing conference hosted at Manchester Central Convention Centre, the Unlock Net Zero Awards 2025 celebrate and champion progress towards decarbonisation across the UK’s housing, built environment, and property sectors.
Winning this award reinforces the importance and impact of embedding climate change education into workplaces, housing, and communities. As the climate crisis continues to exacerbate, the need for accessible, practical, and effective training has never been more urgent.
Our mission has always been clear: equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to act on climate change. This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone involved in delivering Carbon Literacy training and empowering individuals, communities, and organisations to take meaningful and positive climate action.
The feedback from the judges, delivered by our host for the evening, Adam Henson, Farmer and Conservationist, noted:
“[The Carbon Literacy Project] is a clear leader with a proven track record of raising Carbon Literacy at scale. Impressive metrics and impact. Sets a high standard for reach, replicability and embedded sustainability education.”
The Social Housing Toolkit Courses, which include both the Staff course and Householders course, offer housing associations a ready-made, adaptable set of training materials. These courses help employees understand climate change and its global and local impacts, develop low-carbon interventions, and communicate climate change meaningfully, while supporting tenants to understand the benefits of retrofits, demystifying sustainability, and building confidence around green skills.
Sojan, Housing Coordinator at The Carbon Literacy Project, reflected on the evening:
“Attending the Housing 2025 conference was truly a fantastic experience. It was incredibly valuable to connect with individuals from housing associations, supply chain organisations, and others who are all working towards a more sustainable future.
I’m truly grateful for sector peers voting for The Carbon Literacy Project to win this award for the second year. I also loved hearing about all the other wonderful initiatives and innovations pushing climate change action within the housing sector. A growing community of climate-conscious professionals is transforming the housing sector from within. I’m proud to be part of it, and even prouder to see our collective efforts recognised once again.”
