Last month, we took part in The Big Give’s Green Match Fund – the UK’s largest match funding campaign dedicated to environmental charities.

The fundraiser, which ran from the 18th to the 25th of April 2024, provided us with the unique opportunity to have public donations  – and thus impact – doubled in size, making a tangible difference as we tackle climate change through climate education and action.

With the help of the Green Match Fund, donations of all sizes were matched by our supporting organisation, The Big Give.

Empowering Global Communities with Carbon Literacy

For the Green Match Fund, we set out on a mission to Empower Global Communities – a campaign that supports the expansion and acceleration of Carbon Literacy on an international scale.

After a hugely successful year in 2023 and start to 2024, we are continuing to grow at break-neck speed due to the necessary demand for Carbon Literacy, and thanks to the support of our Partners, donors and the wider Carbon Literacy network.

As climate change respects no borders, we believe that individuals everywhere should have access to quality climate education, enabling them to grasp the knowledge and build the skills necessary to take climate action, influence their wider circles, and do their bit in whatever way they can.

However, with differences in global spending power, it is significantly more expensive for communities in Global South nations to access Carbon Literacy – the same communities that serve to be the most impacted but least empowered to take action on the climate crisis – an issue we wanted to tackle through this fundraiser.

The Results

Thanks to the incredible support of the Carbon Literacy community, we are thrilled to share that we raised £7,468 including Gift Aid, from 93 individuals and organisations, in combination with our match funding partner!

All funds raised via the Green Match Fund will go directly towards our International Community Pot, which will serve to facilitate the uptake of Carbon Literacy in lower-income nations and communities in the Global South. The amount raised will support a minimum of 740 people who would otherwise not be able to afford Carbon Literacy training.

Thanks to your support, a greater portion of the global population will receive quality climate education-and-action training, become certified as Carbon Literate, and inspire a low-carbon culture shift in their own lives, while inspiring others along the way.

Campaigns such as the Green Match Fund allow us to raise vital funds and increase awareness, which continues to accelerate the growth of Carbon Literacy and our progress toward a zero-carbon world.

Now, we look forward to seeing what more we can achieve in 2024. With preparations for the fourth annual Carbon Literacy Action Day now underway and other initiatives in the pipeline, we are excited to see what further impact we – as a collective Carbon Literacy community – can have.
