Give the gift of climate education this Christmas season, with double the power!
For one week only, your donation can have twice the impact in driving positive change.
By donating via the Christmas Challenge, your support can be doubled in value between the 3rd and 10th of December – helping us double the chance of a Carbon Literate future.
The Christmas Challenge
We’re thrilled to share that The Carbon Literacy Trust has been chosen to participate in The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2024, the UK’s largest match-funding campaign! From December 3rd to December 10th, every donation made through the Big Give will be matched pound-for-pound by partner organisations. This means every £1 you give becomes £2, doubling the impact of your support for climate action.
The Christmas Challenge offers a unique chance to maximise your contribution to Carbon Literacy, enabling us to reach more people with training that addresses climate change in their lives, workplaces, and communities. With matched donations, your generosity goes twice as far in helping us upscale our work.
We are delighted to have secured match funding from our founding sponsor Westford Mill, part of Beechfield Brands and Sharegift, our Big Give Champion, to each match £2,500 of donations, unlocking £5,000 of match funding for us!
Our Aims
At The Carbon Literacy Project, we believe that everyone should have the tools to contribute to a zero-carbon future. By 2025, we’re setting our sights on bringing Carbon Literacy to new sectors and reaching more communities than ever. We’re hoping to help build a world where action on climate change isn’t just possible; it’s accessible, practical, and widespread.
Therefore, since reaching 100,000 Carbon Literate Learners during the summer, our target now is to double our current reach and engage 200,000 Carbon Literate Learners within the next 18 months. To truly create this Carbon Literacy Snowball Effect, we are seeking to implement training at every level. We want to see Carbon Literate businesses, schools, universities, hospitals, and local authorities all working together to foster Carbon Literate Localities, where everyone within a local area has the opportunity to be unified towards a low-carbon future.
Why?
We know that Carbon Literacy is a proven and reliable tool for providing a clear direction on taking positive climate action – but the systems-level shifts we need for a liveable future can’t happen if we’re only creating change locally. That’s why we’re currently working on providing more global audiences with the knowledge, skills and motivation to act on climate change, and instil Carbon Literacy as a core competence and value.
Climate change respects no borders, so Carbon Literacy and the resulting low-carbon culture change across borders is crucial if we are to justly and swiftly decarbonise our society. We aim to empower more people with the knowledge and skills they need to communicate the benefits of climate action in everyday language, in their local communities; activating new sections of the global population who serve to be the most impacted but least empowered to take action on the climate crisis.
Where will the money go?
All funds raised through The Big Give Christmas Challenge Match Fund will allow Carbon Literacy to scale up our impact significantly. This support will help us broaden our reach, bringing our climate action training to new communities, sectors, and regions across the globe. With these funds, we’ll be able to expand our capacity and accelerate our progress towards a zero-carbon future, empowering even more individuals and organisations to take meaningful action against climate change. Every donation, matched and amplified, helps our project to facilitate our continued growth.
As we are expanding rapidly, we have divided our budget funds into two. We have budged £5,000 towards the costs of upscaling the Carbon Literacy Project, including staff, running costs and advocacy. We have also budged the remaining £5,000 on our current work upscaling our sector Toolkits, to make training accessible for anyone, anywhere.
Save the date!
With only seven days to donate with double the impact, we encourage you to save the date of the Christmas Challenge Match Fund, so you have the best opportunity to support our campaign.
