The First-Ever Carbon Literacy Trainer Awards

October 2024 by Annabel Robinson

On 11th September 2024, we hosted our first-ever Trainer Celebration Evening, an opportunity to honour the exceptional contributions our certified Trainers, Consultants and Carbon Literacy Training Organisations have made since the beginning of Carbon Literacy.

The Carbon Literacy Trainer Certification Scheme recognises Carbon Literacy trainers at three levels reflecting increasing experience in delivering Carbon Literacy: Carbon Literacy Facilitator (CLF), Carbon Literacy Trainer (CLT), and Carbon Literacy Consultant (CLC). The main event of the evening was the presentation of Carbon Literacy Consultant (CLC) badges to four of our outstanding consultants.

Honouring our Carbon Literacy Consultants

The Carbon Literacy Consultant is our highest rank trainer qualification and is offered on an invitation-only basis. It reflects a high level of experience in Carbon Literacy course design and delivery. CLCs have accredited multiple courses and trained others to become trainers. If you’re interested in our Trainer Certification Scheme, please visit our Trainer webpage.

Currently, we have four CLCs:

  • Andrea Wood – delivering since 2022 to over 800 learners at companies like Clearly Drinks and Hotel Shop.
  • Dr. Helen Rodgers – since 2020, delivered to 600+ learners, including Indutrade UK and Rolls Royce Finance.
  • Georgina Patel – delivering since 2019 to nearly 700 learners, including Salix Finance and East African corporates.
  • Dr. Rachel Dunk – delivering since 2014, to Manchester City Council, and more.

Earning Consultant status is no small feat, and we wanted to recognise the hard work and significant impact these Consultants have had in spreading Carbon Literacy across a vast range of sectors. The first event of the night, therefore, was awarding our CLCs with an enamel badge, that they can now wear while delivering training to represent their Consultant status.

As each consultant accepted their badge, they were asked questions such as, “What led you to become involved with Carbon Literacy?”, “How do you feel about receiving CLC status?” and “How has delivering Carbon Literacy training affected you personally?”. Their answers offered a personal glimpse into their journeys with Carbon Literacy and the meaningful role it has played in their lives and careers, which was inspiring for everyone in the room.

Recognising our Carbon Literacy Training Organisations

After this, we also acknowledged the amazing work our Carbon Literacy Training Organisations (CLTO) have done to embed Carbon Literacy within their respective sectors. The Carbon Literacy Training Organisation (CLTO) accreditation identifies an organisation as having a depth of experience and expertise in designing and delivering quality Carbon Literacy training. If you’re interested in becoming a CLTO, please visit our Become a CLTO webpage.

We currently have four CLTOs:

  • Museum Development North
  • Manchester Metropolitan University’s Department of Natural Sciences
  • Auto Trader UK
  • Speak Carbon Collective

As always, we are incredibly grateful for the ongoing commitment of our Trainers, Consultants, and CLTOs, and this event was just a small way of showing our appreciation for their efforts in driving the Carbon Literacy mission forward.

A huge thank you to our host for the evening, Seesaw, and our caters, ARMR, for their contributions to making this such a great night!
