How can a cuddly toy dog and a can of bitter help people understand more about climate change? We spoke to Lisa McAuley and Sarah McClelland at Great Places Housing Group, whose Carbon Literacy training involves both of these props to grab the attention of Carbon Literacy trainees and to inspire discussion about how our everyday behaviour makes an impact.
Great Places as an organisation is incredibly committed to environmental issues, already introducing measures such as web conferencing and rolling out Carbon Literacy training. Sarah and Lisa’s advice for changing behaviours was to keep it simple. “If everybody makes baby steps,” said Lisa, “collectively that makes a larger step and that’s another step to reducing carbon emissions.” So where exactly do a cuddly toy and can of beer fit in with Carbon Literacy training?
