On Thursday 13th November 2025, we hosted the fifth edition of Carbon Literacy Action Day, once again uniting individuals around the world in their desire to act against climate change
The Action Day is the largest mass climate education-and-action training event of its kind globally, where learners from all walks of life, backgrounds, sectors, ages and nations dedicate their time to completing Carbon Literacy training. This year, the Action Day was hosted in line with the UN COP30 Climate Change Conference taking place in Belém, Brazil. As world leaders came together to negotiate international climate policy, we used the opportunity to connect Carbon Literacy learners worldwide and cascade the impact of collective action.
The Results
This year, over 2,782 individuals completed their Carbon Literacy training as part of Carbon Literacy Action Day 2025! A staggering number to join the Carbon Literate community in just one week.
Following their training, each learner will take two new carbon reduction actions, meaning over 5,564 actions have been pledged by this year’s Action Day learners. This is a major step towards tackling climate change and will go on to save over 10,000 tonnes of CO2e. That’s equivalent to the annual emissions of about 2,100 passenger vehicles.
These incredible results were only possible due to the commitment of training providers and organisations choosing to participate in the Action Day. This year, we saw over 133 organisations take part, spanning sectors from digital marketing to local authorities, from healthcare to museums and theatre workers. We want to extend our immense gratitude to all the organisations that made this year’s CLAD such a success
Educational institutions led the way for this year’s Action Day, collectively contributing over 1,466 learners to the overall result. This includes primary school-age pupils all the way through to students and staff at universities. Honourable mentions go out to Barnsley College, which has trained 505 learners, and the Government of Jersey, which has trained 235 of Jersey’s school students. Their work has truly demonstrated the strength of Carbon Literacy to connect learners of all ages.
Once again, the global reach and adaptability of Carbon Literacy training were highlighted by the Action Day. Learners engaged with training from across 21 different countries spanning five continents, including Australia, Austria, England, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Kenya, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, United States of America and Wales.
The Impact
To conclude and celebrate the Action Day, we once again hosted the Carbon Literacy Action Day World Tour Webinar.
The webinar began at 5 pm (GMT) on 13th November and shone a spotlight on some of the outstanding training providers who rolled out courses for this year’s Action Day. Guests joined from Climate Hub International in Uganda, BAFTA Albert, Institute of Asphalt Technology, The Driven Company, The Sustainable Wedding Alliance, Keep Scotland Beautiful, and Manchester City Council. Each spoke about their own experiences of delivering Carbon Literacy training and the wider impact Carbon Literacy can have for improving organisational approaches to climate impact, offering inspiration and advice to any aspiring Carbon Literacy trainers or organisations.
The World Tour Webinar also offered an excellent opportunity to hear key updates and insights from The Carbon Literacy Project’s founders, Phil Korbel and Dave Coleman, about the Project’s work throughout the year. This included headlines of new sector toolkits that have been accredited, the progress of the Carbon Literate Localities initiative as it enters its second year, and an overview of The Carbon Literacy Project’s reach and impact so far.
Dave Coleman also offered inspiring words around this year’s Action Day theme – Connect, Collaborate, Cascade:
“Sometimes, although we feel very alone, we aren’t. There are loads of us out there. There are many of us. Some of them all around the world. Some of them very close to you, in your locality, in your neighbourhood, in your organisation, in your parish, in your region, in your country. All of us together are working for this same agenda where we’re trying to deal with climate change and give everybody better options and a better life.”
If you missed attending this webinar on the day, you can watch the recording on our YouTube channel.
A Big Thank You
Every year, Carbon Literacy Action Day captures the passion for creating a low-carbon future shared by our staff, volunteers, trainers and learners, and which lies at the heart of what we do at The Carbon Literacy Project.
The amazing collective impact of the Action Day would not be possible without the commitment of all the training providers who took part, and we wish to extend our deepest thanks to all those who chose to participate this year.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our CLAD volunteers, whose time and focus have ensured that the increased number of applications we have received following CLAD can be processed. Finally, we would like to direct a very special thank you to Zenith for being the sponsor for this year’s Carbon Literacy Action Day.
What’s Next?
Stay tuned to hear who has won this year’s CLAD Catalyst Award! This year will see three winners (two organisations and one trainer) recognised for their commitment to our theme – Connect, Collaborate, Cascade.
If you are keen to take part in Carbon Literacy Action Day 2026, you can register your interest here. While exact dates are not yet confirmed, and there is no commitment, registering your interest early is a great way to stay informed of updates for CLAD 2026 as they are released. This will also ensure you can access support from our CLAD Team earlier, helping to ensure you can maximise engagement with your future learners.
If you are interested in the Action Day but aren’t yet engaged with Carbon Literacy, we welcome you to get in touch so you can begin your Carbon Literacy journey today.
