For a long time, Twitter was a valued platform for us to share relevant news, updates and resources to support the growth of #CarbonLiteracy – including trainers creating accredited courses and learners building on skills developed during their training.
Over the past few years, for reasons that are news to no one at this point, the platform ceased to be a safe and useful environment for this endeavour. Misinformation and division proliferating on the platform are at complete odds with the tenets of shared understanding and collective action demanded by the climate crisis and cultivated by Carbon Literacy.
That’s why we dialled down our use of X over the past year and focused our activities on our other platforms – LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook – where you can always find the latest news and updates about Carbon Literacy.
As many flocked to Bluesky, we took some time to assess if it would be a valuable channel to fill this gap, help us reach the people we need to reach, and achieve what we aim to achieve.
Carbon Literacy has always been about making climate action the norm for everyone, and part of the everyday. By its very definition, we must break out of the eco-niche and help illustrate the applicability & benefits of climate action for all.
We’ve been encouraged by the growth (in number and diversity) of people joining the platform in recent months. We also appreciate its user-controlled approach, which appears to encourage a more constructive and inclusive environment. So, we’ve decided to join the conversation.
If you’re already active on Bluesky or are convinced to test it out too, give us a follow @carbonliteracy.bsky.social. Expect quick-fire climate news, resources and updates relevant to your work with Carbon Literacy. And, with user focus in mind:
We’re looking forward to building our Bluesky community. Catch you there!
