Support The People’s Emergency Briefing

January 2026 by Phil Korbel

James Baldwin said, “Nothing can be changed until it is faced”, and, if you’re Carbon Literate, you’re probably already there, facing the climate crisis. But how do we start that process with our political leaders?

That’s what the National Emergency Briefing was all about – getting world-class experts in front of MPs, which it did in November. You can read my report on what was a really big day here.

Now the organisers want to make a film based on the event, for showings at community venues across the UK, with MPs and councillors attending. It’s a great idea – I’m positive that the film will be brilliant – and very impactful wherever it’s shown. (Have a look at their YouTube channel to get a flavour of the presentations.) It’s not simply going to be the presentations – there’ll be clips from them, but also a lot of reactions and context setting for local action. In other words, ideal for community showings and discussion with your local MPs and councillors.

Until now the project has been funded by its founders – Simon & Nick Oldridge – who still volunteer their time. Now funding is needed to make the community film, and it’d be great if you’d consider donating and promoting their Crowdfunder. As well as being worthwhile in itself, this is a great example of how the Carbon Literacy community can make a difference. When we promoted the Briefing itself in the Newsletter, we were told the web traffic there jumped. Let’s do that again.

Find out more and donate via their Crowdfunding page.

We’ll share details of how to show the film in your community once it’s made.
