Inspire Climate Inclusion for CLAD 2024

September 2024 by Hannah Eldon

With the fourth annual Carbon Literacy Action Day (CLAD) just two months away, taking place on November 14th 2024, we are looking forward to inviting you to the world’s largest climate education and action training event!

After the record-breaking success of last year’s Action Day with over 2,300 learners trained across 225 organisations worldwide, we are setting our sights on making our impact even bigger, by reaching new regions, organisations and learners around the globe.

This year, we aim to create a lasting impact that inspires united change. The Action Day provides the unique opportunity to connect with individuals across the globe with the shared goal of addressing climate change through undergoing a day’s worth of Carbon Literacy training simultaneously with others all over the world.

The 2024 Action Day coincides with the most influential climate event of the year, COP29. Taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, this year, the COP29 Presidency is aiming to create an ‘inclusive process for inclusive outcomes’. Reflecting on this, we are inspired to implement similar themes for our Action Day, so that we can act whilst governments talk.

So, with the vital need for global inclusion to effectively fight climate change, we want to encourage you to think big, to ensure that no one is left out of the global climate conversation. But how?

Introducing Climate Inclusion

For CLAD 2024, we have introduced the theme of Climate Inclusion.

To inspire intersectional action, we are aiming to build a more inclusive and inspired network of learners, allowing training providers to get creative with how they empower others and make their training more impactful than ever.

Our goal is inspired by the need for a diverse range of voices to catalyse greater climate action across society so that long-lasting, high-impact change can happen.

Therefore, we encourage you to make your training more inclusive for CLAD by pushing boundaries, thinking creatively and finding ways to elevate your training so that everyone, everywhere can be part of the global climate conversation.

How can you inspire climate inclusion?

To help you think about how your organisation can make CLAD training more inclusive, here are some prompts:

Community Collaboration: Extend beyond your usual community groups and networks, and engage those often excluded from the climate conversation to inspire intersectional action. Identify groups in your wider community who may not typically have access to Carbon Literacy training, and find ways to include them in this year’s Action Day.

Global Engagement: Have an organisational partner, office, or connection in another country? Globalise your CLAD training to include them this November. Alternatively, consider pairing with new nations or global organisations to amplify diverse perspectives, deepen the impact of your training and drive global climate action.

CLAD Catalyst Award

By participating in the theme of Climate Inclusion, you could be in the running to receive an award exclusive to the Carbon Literacy Action Day – the CLAD Catalyst Award!

The award aims to honour those who move beyond the norm and go above and beyond to inspire inclusion in their training, and who have showcased outstanding examples of catalytic Carbon Literacy training during the Action Day.

The award will recognise three exceptional organisations and/or trainers who have delivered exceptionally catalytic training, with a strong commitment to climate action that radiates through the training they delivered.

The award recipients will receive:

  • A unique CLAD Catalyst logo to recognise your commitment to Carbon Literacy and climate change.
  • Credits to your Carbon Literacy account to go towards further catalytic work.
  • A promotional pack to help promote your award.

To become a CLAD Catalyst, all you have to do is:

  • Ensure you are registered to take part in the Action Day.
  • Read more about our theme here.
  • Work with our team to plan and deliver catalytic Carbon Literacy training.
  • Tell us in your post-CLAD survey, that you’ll receive on November 14th, how you’ve met our theme of Climate Inclusion.
  • …Then wait for the results in December!
