For the fifth year in a row since its UK launch in 2014, record-breaking numbers have signed up for Veganuary. This month-long dietary challenge encourages participants to cut out dairy and meat from their diet for the duration of January. People’s reasoning for taking up this challenge differ, with some more focused on reducing widespread animal cruelty, health benefits, and/or reducing the negatives effects associated with climate change.

Back in May 2018, the Guardian, amongst others, reported that ‘avoiding meat and dairy products is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet, according to the scientists behind the most comprehensive analysis to date of the damage farming does to the planet’. Although flying less, switching to a renewable energy tariff, and walking and using public transport more often are all very effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint; drastically reducing your meat and dairy consumption tackles a myriad of environmental issues associated with ocean acidification, eutrophication, land and water use, as well as the big one – climate change.

Because of this.. some of our office team have decided to give the challenge a go! We will keep you updated with our progress, along with any particularly tasty tried and tested recipes we might stumble across.
