Introducing the Carbon Literacy Double!

April 2023 by Catherine McGinn

Imagine if you could make one donation, that has double the impact?

We are excited to announce that we have been selected by The Big Give to take part in their Green Match Fund 2023!

The Green Match Fund is a match funding campaign that will run for one week – 20th-27th April 2023 – and was set up by The Big Give to specifically support environmental charities, make a difference on climate, ecological and conservation causes and tackle some of the most pressing issues our planet faces today.

Throughout the seven days of this campaign, any donations made to The Carbon Literacy Trust will be matched by supporting organisations, therefore doubling the impact and helping your donation go even further in supporting our cause.

So, introducing…

The Carbon Literacy Double!

You may recall that last year, The Carbon Literacy Project ‘doubled’ in size! In 2022, our 10th anniversary year, we certified as many learners in a 12-month period as it had taken the previous 10 years – from 25,000 to 50,000 learners certified as Carbon Literate.

Now, via the Carbon Literacy Double this April, join us as we attempt to double again, to double our impact, by doubling your donations.

Why?

Climate change is the biggest threat facing our generation today, and we are quickly running out of time to act. The 2020s are our last chance to take meaningful action, that will have a significant impact on climate change, before major climate thresholds and tipping points are met. Whilst most people are aware that climate change is happening and that it’s human-caused, there is still a massive gap in the knowledge, skills, and motivation needed, by individuals at all levels of society, to tackle this problem.

Carbon Literacy training provides learners everywhere with the knowledge, skills and motivation to act on climate change, wherever, and whoever, they are. Carbon Literacy directly tackles emissions from an individual to an organisational level, and by scaling this proven solution, we can take meaningful action against the climate crisis.

Our aims

Through the Carbon Literacy Double, our fundraising target is a total of £80,000 – £40,000 from public donations, and £40,000 from the help of our Big Give Champions. With the help of this fund, our aims are threefold:

Firstly, with the support of additional funding, we will have a total of 100,000 citizens certified as Carbon Literate by the end of 2023, which is double the figure that we began the year with.

Secondly, as a result of 100,000 learners each pledging two actions at the end of their training, we will see 200,000 actions pledged to directly reduce emissions and tackle climate change.

Finally, as a result of those 200,000 actions, we will see a total of 360,000 tonnes CO2e pledged to be saved by the end of 2023.

Where will the money go?

All funds raised via the Green Match Fund will directly go toward facilitating the delivery of Carbon Literacy at scale. This fund will enable us to grow and expand as a project, creating new positions on our team that align with our ambitions to break into new sectors and geographies, and continuously develop Carbon Literacy around the globe. Additionally, this fund will support the development of introducing new technologies to our systems, allowing us to process learner evidence for certification in a more efficient and less manual way, therefore enabling even more individuals to become Carbon Literate.

Save the date!

With a total of just 7 days to make a donation that will have double the impact, we encourage you to save the date of the Green Match Fund, so you have the best opportunity to support the Carbon Literacy Double. This April, double your donation and help us double the chance of a Carbon Literate future.

Can you help us achieve our goal?
