Deadline for CLO Applications: 6pm Friday 26th February 2027
The Next CLO Award Ceremony: June 2027
Becoming an accredited Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) is a proven way for organisations to accelerate climate action, demonstrate their commitment to a low-carbon future, and build the knowledge and skills needed to achieve Net Zero.
But Carbon Literacy can deliver benefits far beyond this. It helps organisations strengthen employee engagement, develop green skills, reduce carbon and resource consumption, manage commercial risks, and demonstrate credible action to customers, partners and communities.
As sustainability expectations continue to grow, CLO accreditation also provides a recognised way to show that your organisation is turning commitments into action.
The next Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) Awards will take place in June 2027, which means now is the time to apply for CLO accreditation.
What is a Carbon Literate Organisation?
Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) accreditation offers organisations a visible way to showcase their commitment to Carbon Literacy.
Organisations accredited as a CLO have a substantial proportion of their workforce certified as Carbon Literate and are taking significant action to embed a low-carbon culture.
With four accreditation levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, CLO accreditation recognises increasing levels of commitment to Carbon Literacy and measurable carbon reduction.
Why become a Carbon Literate Organisation?
Becoming a Carbon Literate Organisation can deliver benefits for both your people and your business. Organisations accredited as Carbon Literate can identify opportunities to reduce energy and resource consumption, cut emissions and lower costs, while building a workforce equipped to respond to the changing business landscape.
Carbon Literacy can also support employee engagement and talent retention by giving people the knowledge and skills to contribute to meaningful climate action, helping create a culture where sustainability becomes part of everyday decision-making.
For organisations competing for contracts, CLO accreditation can provide credible evidence of environmental and social value commitments. As sustainability becomes an increasingly important part of procurement and supply-chain requirements, demonstrating recognised action can help organisations stand out from competitors.

CLO accreditation can also help organisations demonstrate that their commitment to sustainability goes beyond statements. By investing in Carbon Literacy across your workforce, you can show customers, partners, employees and communities that your organisation is taking meaningful action.

Celebrate at the CLO Awards ceremony
The CLO Awards are an opportunity to celebrate organisations across sectors that are embedding Carbon Literacy and demonstrating what CLO accreditation can achieve in practice. From Bronze through to Platinum, the Awards recognise organisations at different stages of their journey and showcase the people, projects and progress behind their accreditation. What do I need to do to secure a spot?
This depends on where your organisation is in its Carbon Literacy journey:
If your organisation has already been accredited as a CLO since March 2026, you do not need to do anything. You will automatically receive an invitation to the upcoming 2027 CLO awards via email closer to the time.
If your organisation was previously accredited as a CLO before March 2026, you may be eligible to apply to upgrade to the next tier.
If your organisation is rolling out Carbon Literacy but has not yet applied for CLO accreditation, you can apply to become a CLO (at any tier for which you meet the requirements).
If your organisation is entirely new to Carbon Literacy, get in touch with us via email ([email protected]), and we can advise you on the most effective way to Get Started.
