The Carbon Literacy Double: Wrapped

April 2023 by Catherine McGinn

In April, we took part in the Green Match Fund – a match funding campaign organised by The Big Give – and what a week it was!

The fundraising event ran from 20th-27th April 2023 and was set up by The Big Give to support environmental charities like ours, as collectively, we tackle some of the most pressing challenges our planet faces today.

With the help of the Green Match Fund, donations of all sizes would be matched, and therefore doubled, with the help of our supporting organisation.

The Carbon Literacy Double

As part of the Green Match Fund, we launched the Carbon Literacy Double.

After doubling in size in 2022, we had our sights set on doubling again, to double our impact, by doubling donations!

Through the Carbon Literacy Double initiative, we had three aims.

  1. With the support of additional funding, we will have a total of 100,000 citizens certified as Carbon Literate by the end of 2023, which is double the figure that we began the year with.
  2. As a result of 100,000 learners each pledging two actions at the end of their training, we will see 200,000 actions pledged to directly reduce emissions and tackle climate change.
  3. As a result of those 200,000 actions, we will see a total of 360,000 tonnes CO2e pledged to be saved by the end of 2023.

As a result of the Carbon Literacy Double, we received £13,580, meaning that with the match fund, we raised a total of £27,160!

Over the course of the week, we received a total of 38 donations from both individuals and organisations. Excitingly, we also welcomed some new Partners to the Carbon Literacy Partner Scheme who share our vision of helping to make Carbon Literacy accessible to everyone around the world.

Thank You

We are incredibly grateful to everyone that supported the Carbon Literacy Double, and we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who kindly made a donation to our cause. We are absolutely blown away by the generosity of the Carbon Literacy community, and the array of support we received along our journey.

As a charity with no core funding, campaigns such as the Green Match Fund allow us to raise vital funds so that we can continue to accelerate the growth of Carbon Literacy, to build a low-carbon, positive future for all.

What else is in store for 2023?

After an incredible start to the year, we are excited to see what else 2023 will bring for us at The Carbon Literacy Project. Now, as we will soon approach 60,000 certified learners, we still have our sights set on doubling our organisational impact by reaching 100,000 learners by the end of 2023.

But in the meantime, with new Toolkits, the third annual Carbon Literacy Action Day and other new initiatives in the pipeline, we look forward to driving forward our continued growth in a variety of ways, so people everywhere can engage with Carbon Literacy, take meaningful action on climate change, and in all, work together to create a better tomorrow.
